GIFT WITH PURCHASE TIME! Until 4/24, this special GWP premium color traveling eyeshadow is yours with $20 purchase. This is a sneak preview of a shade from a new collection I’m working on inspired by colorful insects. Entomology and the range of iridescent color effects found in insects is fascinating to me.
This shade is CHRYSOLINA, inspired by the metallic color shifting hue of the Chrysolina perforata beetle. Orders of $20+ will receive this GWP of a demi sample jar with jar art, through 4/24.
Last Halloween’s FATALIS collection was one of the most popular collections I’ve ever done. Every week I receive requests to bring it back permanently and create more eyeshadows using the same type of pigments.
The color traveling pigments I’m using are unique in that are highly reflective/chrome finish, and they show the most saturated color effects and color travel when exposed to artificial lighting and especially mixed lighting of different color temperatures, much like the beautiful Alexandrite gemstone exhibits trichroism, reflecting and absorbing light differently in different directions and color temperatures.
Daylight is more blue (higher color temperature), so this is why Chrysolina appears more bluish in sunlight and you can’t see color travel, as it is scattered by the broad lightsource (this is why most duochrome or color travel shadows are hard to capture on camera in direct sunlight, as well). Incandescent light is more red, so you see the violet shift. Mixed lighting conditions will show both shifts depending on angle of viewing and where the illuminating lights are. These were photographed outdoors, under a desk lamp with a daylight CFL bulb, and in the naturally occurring mixed lighting conditions around my home and office (window light, lamps, overhead room lights, etc).

This September marks Aromaleigh’s seventeenth anniversary! I can’t believe it’s been that long… I suddenly feel a little bit old, but definitely not stodgy. 🙂 I admire women like Vivienne Westwood and Betsey Johnson, who are still going as strong as ever in their creative fields, not letting their age hold them back or question what they are passionately inspired by. I’ll be turning 45 on September 10th, but feel as young as ever, and that through Aromaleigh I’m producing my best creative work in almost two decades.
What’s the secret? I love what I do. I create via that which I am personally inspired by, and immerse myself in intense personal interests. It’s important for me that my work displays a unique conceptual perspective, so I always dig deeply for my collection ideas. I love color and how light interacts with and changes it. I love science and physics, and color is all part of that grand design.
For the entire month of September, orders of $17 (after discount/before shipping) will receive a GWP deluxe sample (that’s 1/4 tsp in a jar/no sifter with top label) of a gorgeous shade called “Synchrony”. it’s got a raisin-y base, with borealis sparkle and a strong overall sunny gold shimmer that will make the color appear differently depending on your application method/base.
The word “synchrony” is defined as simultaneous occurrence, and that is what I discovered when I began researching the meaning and numerological significance of the number 17. It’s a number that appears just about everywhere throughout history, religion and myth, which I found fascinating! In Numerology, the number 17 represents the Star of the Magi, which also translates into the star being represented as the 17th card of the tarot. It signifies wishes, hope, or dreams to come true. The Star of the Magi was expressed in symbolism by the ancient Chaldeans as the 8-pointed Star of Venus, then known as Ishtar. Ishtar and her star symbol were known by many names…
I found the persistence of the number 17 amongst so many different cultures to be an uncanny synchronous occurrence, so instead of calling this special GWP “17 years of Sparkle” or something similar, I chose to call it “Synchrony”. That’s the circuitous manner in which my brain thinks (and over-thinks!). I hope you enjoy this lovely GWP, it’s even prettier in person- it has a lot going on and is very complex and thus hard to capture in camera.
In case you haven’t had a chance to try out shades from the last two month’s Menagerie collections, they are now 25% off!

“OKEANIDES”, which translates to “Daughters of Oceanus”, is inspired by the Okeanid nymphs of Greek mythology. The daughters of Okeanos (Oceanus) were three thousand goddess Nymphs who presided over the sources of earth’s water, ranging from rainclouds to subterranean springs and fountains. Each nymph is paired with the visual inspiration of a classical painting. –> SHOP!
Newly reformulated and now available in the deluxe sample size!
** Reformulated: All sizes of this shade as of the 5/23 restocking are a new and improved formula. This formula features added ingredients for adhesion and wear, which also intensify the color shifts and make it easier to wear and blend over both bare skin and a variety of primers. As always, I recommend a regular cream base such as NYX eyeshadow base. Your mileage may vary with sticky glue type primers.
