Just in for the holidays- DOLCI lip balms inspired by Italian sweets!

The DOLCI lip balm collection is inspired by popular Italian desserts, candies and drinks. Italian pastries always remind me of the holidays. When I was a little girl, I remember we’d go to New Jersey to visit my Aunt and Uncle, and there were always large boxes of decadent pastries for all to enjoy from the local Italian bakery.

**Specially formulated for Black Friday release and the holiday season, there are limited quantities available for each variety.

AMARETTI: Also known as Amaretti di Saronno, Amaretti are a sweet and chewy cookie made with almond paste and meringue, with a crispy outer layer. They are traditional to Saronno, a comune of Lombardy, Italy.

BACI: Baci is a type of candy made by famous Italian choclatier Perugina. My favorite Baci is the chocolate covered cherry variety. Perugina is located in Perugia, Umbria.

BELLINI: A Bellini cocktail is a mixture of Prosecco sparkling wine (a type of champagne) and peach purée or nectar. This cocktail originated in Venice, Veneto, Italy.

BISCOTTI: Biscotti, known also as cantuccini, are Italian biscuits that originated in the city of Prato. My favorite are the anise variety, with bits of dried fruit and nuts.

CANNOLI: Cannoli hail from Palermo, Sicily and are a tube of fried dough filled with sweet cream or ricotta mixture and garnished with pistachios or chocolate. For this balm, I opted for Pistachio!

CASSATA: Cassata consists of round sponge cake moistened with fruit juices or liqueur and layered with ricotta cheese, candied peel, and a chocolate or vanilla filling similar to cannoli cream. It is covered with a shell of marzipan, pink and green pastel colored icing, and decorative designs.

FONDENTE: Fondente dell’arancio is a delectable dark chocolate gelato with orange flavoring.

PANNA COTTA: Sweetened, cooked cream. Panna Cotta is usually molded into a simple round shape and served with a medley of berries. It hails from the Piemonte region of Italy.

PIZELLE: Traditional thin Italian waffle cookies, from the Abruzzo region. My favorite are made with lemon zest, but anise is also popular.

TIRAMISU: A popular layered Italian dessert made with ladyfingers soaked in espresso and layered with sweetened marscapone cheese, cream and cocoa. It’s origin is believed to be the Veneto or Friuli regions.

This formula is nourishing, with Pomegranate butter and Meadowfoam oil.

RED DRAGON box extras go on sale 11/15 at 9 AM EST!

Tomorrow morning the extras from last month’s exclusive William Blake/Red Dragon/Hannibal inspired box- will be available for purchase! Mark the time 9 AM EST. I apologize for the early hour, but I will be away all day Sunday so was unable to put them up later in the day.

Get all the details, inspiration, and backstory about the collection and colors from this amazing writeup from Cleolinda Jones. She did an incredible job with this, so definitely check it out!

Due to excitement about the Dragon’s Kiss lipgloss, I went ahead and made two more batches, so there are 42 units available. If by chance these sell out, I will put up a pre-order. If need to reach at least 14 units in a preorder to make a single batch. More details on that if the need arises.

There are no extras of the fragrance, “Draconis”, but if enough people express interest in purchasing a bottle of the scent, I will work out details with Alchimia Apothecary to stock some. If you are interested, please send a message to support@aromaleigh.freshdesk.com

There *may* be some extra complete boxes available, as I calculate if all purchasers have received their boxes. I always create extras to anticipate if there are any complete losses or damages. As not all international customers have received theirs, I can’t release all the extra boxes into inventory tomorrow.

The DRYADES are back… multichromatic eyeshadows inspired by the Greek nymphs of the trees and forests

DRYADES.1150x.TEMPLATEAutumn welcomes the DRYADES collection at Aromaleigh… ten dramatic duochrome shades imbued with the tones of Fall’s splendor. Dryads and Hamadryads were the Greek nymphs of the forests and trees. These colors were all inspired by specific Dryads or groups of Dryads, and incredible classic paintings portraying them.

I rephotographed the colors during the recent shop closing, and they turned out remarkedly improved being shot with my new camera. Look at those gorgeous color shifts and complexity!

It’s Aromaleigh’s SEVENTEENTH anniversary! Receive “Synchrony” GWP with orders of $17+ through September!

SYNCHRONY.1150x.TEMPLATEThis September marks Aromaleigh’s seventeenth anniversary! I can’t believe it’s been that long… I suddenly feel a little bit old, but definitely not stodgy. 🙂 I admire women like Vivienne Westwood and Betsey Johnson, who are still going as strong as ever in their creative fields, not letting their age hold them back or question what they are passionately inspired by. I’ll be turning 45 on September 10th, but feel as young as ever, and that through Aromaleigh I’m producing my best creative work in almost two decades.

What’s the secret? I love what I do. I create via that which I am personally inspired by, and immerse myself in intense personal interests. It’s important for me that my work displays a unique conceptual perspective, so I always dig deeply for my collection ideas. I love color and how light interacts with and changes it. I love science and physics, and color is all part of that grand design.

For the entire month of September, orders of $17 (after discount/before shipping) will receive a GWP deluxe sample (that’s 1/4 tsp in a jar/no sifter with top label) of a gorgeous shade called “Synchrony”. it’s got a raisin-y base, with borealis sparkle and a strong overall sunny gold shimmer that will make the color appear differently depending on your application method/base.

The word “synchrony” is defined as simultaneous occurrence, and that is what I discovered when I began researching the meaning and numerological significance of the number 17. It’s a number that appears just about everywhere throughout history, religion and myth, which I found fascinating! In Numerology, the number 17 represents the Star of the Magi, which also translates into the star being represented as the 17th card of the tarot. It signifies wishes, hope,  or dreams to come true. The Star of the Magi was expressed in symbolism by the ancient Chaldeans as the 8-pointed Star of Venus, then known as Ishtar. Ishtar and her star symbol were known by many names…

I found the persistence of the number 17 amongst so many different cultures to be an uncanny synchronous occurrence, so instead of calling this special GWP “17 years of Sparkle” or something similar, I chose to call it “Synchrony”. That’s the circuitous manner in which my brain thinks (and over-thinks!). I hope you enjoy this lovely GWP, it’s even prettier in person- it has a lot going on and is very complex and thus hard to capture in camera.

The Minotaur Menagerie arrives September 15th… here’s the collection’s visual inspiration!

I spend a lot of time immersing myself in my subject matter when I work on a collection, which means a lot of research, reading, pinning, and documentary watching most days!

Concepting ideas and transferring them into a beautiful and wearable color palette is one of my favorite parts of the job. I absolutely love the color inspiration for the Minotaur Menagerie- it contains gorgeous, rich autumnal tones but at the same time hangs on to the last bits of summer, through rich blues and aquas. The frescoes of ancient Knossos and Thera were probably my biggest source of inspiration- they are so beautiful!

I will have sneak peeks of the products in this collection to share with you, soon. The collection contains six eyeshadows, a highlighter, a rouge, a lipgloss and a custom Alchimia Apothecary fragrance- a total of ten Minoan-inspired items!

Lipgloss: Pasiphae’s Curse
Fragrance: Mistress of the Labyrinth
Rouge: Ariadne
Highlighter: Seven
Eyeshadows: Minotauros, Asterion, Snake Goddess, Daidalos, Daughter of Helios, Knossos

Marie Antoinette Ephemera extras go on sale September 1!

August’s Marie Antoinette Ephemera extras will be available for purchase on September 1st!

From the August box insert:

August’s Ephemera is inspired by Marie Antoinette, and the 80’s vibe of Sofia Coppola’s film of the same name.

The beautiful label art by Glucose Girl/Miranda Sharp reflects an 80’s inspired Marie, so I thought it would be fun for this month’s box colors to follow in suit. As you know, this is the last Ephemera box, so I’d like to take the time to personally thank you for being a subscriber. While Ephemera is ending, my creativity is not. I will be bringing you many exciting things in the future!

While watching Coppola’s film, I was most aesthetically drawn to the depictions of Marie in her youth, before the extravagance of court life weighed down her radiant natural beauty. As such, the shades in this box are soft and wearable, despite the fact that they may be outside of your comfort zone.

Try using L’Autrichienne as an eyeliner, or an all-over wash of color with Dauphine or Versailles applied over the top. You’ll no longer have straight aqua, but a beautiful and dimensional color shift that reflects the colorful complexity of Versailles. Maria Antonia is a “blush glow”. On pale skintones, an easy to wear blush. On deeper skintones, better as a highlighter.

The Diavoli are returning on 9/15, more devilish than ever!

The devils of Dante Alighieri’s Inferno are returning for the Halloween Autumn season… reformulated and available in the new deluxe sample jar size!

Diavoli translates to devil in Italian, and this collection is inspired by the devilish demons of Dante Alighieri’s Inferno. There’s 13 colors inspired by the Malebranche of the 8th circle of Hell, which in italian is called “Malebolge”, which translates to “evil ditches”. The Malebranche (which means “evil claws”) were 13 devilish demons who patrolled the 5th Bolgia. (only 12 are named in the Inferno). Bolgia 5 was where extortionists, blackmailers, politicians and unscrupulous businessmen: sinners who used their positions in life to gain personal wealth or other advantages for themselves) are punished by being thrown into a river of boiling tar. Should they try to escape, the Malebranche, armed with grappling hooks and barbs, stand guard over them. Visual inspiration comes from my own reader’s eye, as well as illustrations and paintings by Gustav Dore, Sandro Botticelli, Giovanni di Paolo and Giovanni Stradano.
