IGNUS ANTIQUITA – “Ancient Fire” eyeshadows inspired by history’s forgotten women

Check out the new swatch grids for all forty shades of this inspiring new collection- these colors are all duochrome/multichrome effects with plush to frost finishes. These shadows don’t contain larger particle size “sparks” or mineral-based glitters, so you should find them very wearable even for everyday looks!

This new collection is permanent (not limited edition), and is our first new collection of our 15th birthday year, which we hope will bring many new things. We plan to continue with this concept, and release some duochrome type of blushes and highlighting powders as well.

The name of the collection is “Ignus Antiquita”, suggested by our Facebook fan Lisemarie. It is Latin for “ancient fire”, and is a wonderful fit for this collection, which is inspired by amazing women throughout history who have been largely forgotten, or had their histories revised or greatly embellished. We’ve got some great background information for each woman currently detailed on our Facebook page, here. This info will be transcribed over to our website once we have the page for this collection fully programmed.

Right now you can purchase SAMPLE SETS! Full sizes, single samples and full size sets will be added for the collection’s January 1 release.

Giveaway! Win a 40 shade sample set of the upcoming release, “Ignis Antiquita”- multichrome shades inspired by history’s forgotten women

“Ignis Antiquita” is beautifully representative of the sentiment behind this collection. It is Latin, and translates to English as “Ancient Fire” or “Fire of Old”. Ignis is fire- as it relates to the fiery spirit and passion. Antiquita is old, ancient, time-honored, revered, primeval.

While this collection features beautiful eyeshadow shades all inspired by different women in ancient history, we didn’t want to use words relating to “beauty” in this collection. Mainly because whether or not these women were beautiful is inconsequential at this point in time. It is their passionate spirit, their intelligence, bravery, strength, and indomitable will that lives on. And so it is for all of us. Living in a society that is dominated by the value of female beauty, we often judge ourselves by cultural standards of beauty and femininity. Some days it seems like all of the other positive contributions we might make pale in comparison to the most fleeting aspect of who we truly are– our looks. This collection is there to remind you of the paths that came before you, and the feminine energy and strength that is part of your past. Reconnect with is daily as you choose your eyeshadow colors and learn each woman’s history.

These women may be barely mentioned in History books, but in all women they endure.

The collection is set for January 1, 2014- New Year’s Day! A wonderful way to ring in the New Year.

Enter to win one of five sample sets via our Rafflecopter giveaway on Facebook.

And enjoy sneak peeks of the first 25 shades, in the slideshow below!

More sneak peeks from our upcoming Multichrome eye collection featuring history’s forgotten women!

Enjoy some more sneak peeks of our upcoming collection of “Multichrome” eyeshadows, due for January 1st release. This collection will contain 30 shades, which are inspired by the forgotten women of history and in some cases, legend. Women you rarely learn about in a history class, or documentary.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAPenthesilea was the legendary queen of the Amazons between 1200-1100 CE, around the time of the Trojan War in which she fought. She was a Priestess of Athena and credited with inventing the battle-axe. Was she a real woman? We’ll never know. Penthesilea may have been as real or unreal as any other of the warriors in Homer’s Iliad, but she is the most significant woman other than the Helen in the epic. Her color is a rich dark green patina with multichrome effects of violet-red and gold-chartreuse.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“Skuld” was a Viking warrior elf witch from “The Saga of Hrolf Kraki”… whether she was an actual woman or not, we’ll never know. But she most certainly inspired generation after generation of shield maidens. And how could you not want to name an eyeshadow “SKULD”? This color is forged from the blood and bronze of fallen Viking warriors, and a dose of Skuld’s magic. Actually, it’s a gorgeous color that these photos barely capture. It’s got multichrome effects of red to violet, and copper tones, within a base of weathered red with dark violet undertones. Get the full dish on Skuld, here (note- if you are offended by profanity, you might want to google her instead!) http://www.badassoftheweek.com/index.cgi?id=1229781154

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hypatia of Alexandria was a mathmatician and philosopher, and head of the Platonist school in Alexandria. She was educated in Athens. (more, here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypatia) This is a very complex shade, with several layers of multichromal effect, to depict Hypatia’s many studies. At it’s core, it is a neutral grey- but it changes tone in different types of light!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This shade is “Theodora”, as in Empress Theodora of Byzantium. We’re still working on the best way to photograph these multichrome shades, because this image barely shows the intensities of the color shifts. In person, this color shifts (over the warm cocoa base) to violet then to chartreuse with a point in between where you see shimmers of blue and aqua. Not sure what we’re going to call the collection yet, but still going through the many wonderful suggestions from the last few days. This is going to be a permanent collection, so we want to be really sure about the name.

A sneak peek of some shades from an upcoming duochrome collection inspired by history’s forgotten women

A sneak peek of “Agnodice”, “Gwenllian” and “Enheduanna” from our upcoming new permanent collection of duochromes. The collection will have 30 shades, and each one is named after a woman of days long past, both antiquity and ancient times. Women that you may have never heard of, and certainly women who have been overlooked by most history books for their contributions.

We hope for this New Year’s collection to be colors you’ll want to wear every day, and learn about the legacy of these women, and be inspired! Hopefully we’ll have more sneak peeks, as sunny weather permits– it’s an important aspect to getting good photographs of these complex, chameleon-like colors!

Some of the other named colors include Hypatia, Chiomara, Lucrezia (Borgia), Khutulun (granddaughter of Genghis Khan), Aspasia, Arachidamia, Agrippina, Theodora (Empress), Phryne, Skuld, Freydis, Aradia, Clotilda, Sappho, Tamar (Queen), Zenobia (Queen), Telesilla, Tomyris, Urraca, Yael, Penthesilea, Blenda, Eleanore (of Aquitaine), and many others!

In addition to this 30-shade permanent collection of duochrome eyeshadows, we’ll also be carrying this theme through to a new collection of duochrome cheek colors.

We’ll be writing more condensed descriptions of each woman’s life, but for the purpose of these 3 sneak peeks, we’re going to direct information from Wikipedia.
