color love: pantone spring/summer 2010: turquoise

Pantone’s choice for color of the year, Turquoise (Pantone 15-5519). One of my favorite shades, I personally find this particular shade, (Pantone 15-5519) to be more of a teal color? Teal-quoise? However, I’m not picky. Whether it’s green-blue or blue-green, this is still a shade range that I personally love…

The Pantone Spring 2010 report featured many designers who used shades from the forecast in their collections. Peter Som sees the color of the year as a reflection of “the need for happy, mood-lifting colors that offer a bit of escapism”. And who doesn’t need a little bit of escapism? Raise your hand!

Below, a few pieces from Peter Som’s Spring 2010 collection. These are the closest we could find to Turquoise, although they range into the pale blue range!

From Spring and summer naturally evoke feelings of calm ocean waters and tranquil beach vacations in cool, vibrant, tropical Turquoise. This soothing hue from the blue-green family conjures feelings of escape, especially when paired with Amparo Blue

Turquoise was present on Spring 2010’s runways, but considering it was chosen as the color of the year by Pantone, I was very surprised to find that not only was Turquoise not a dominant shade, but most of the Pantone color forecast shades had a weak showing overall! There was a dominance of white, black, cotton candy pink, baby blue, kelly green and TONS of pastels, as well as metallics galore. Here’s some Turquoise from the Spring 2010 runways, slides source
